Installing Steam Workshop Mods on Your Server
Project Zomboid has a thriving modding community with thousands of mods available through the Steam Workshop. This guide will walk you through the process of installing Workshop mods on your Rivix Project Zomboid server.
Step 1: Find the Mods You Want
Before you begin installation, you need to identify the mods you want to add:
- Open Steam and navigate to the Project Zomboid page
- Click on "Workshop" to browse available mods
- When you find a mod you want, note its Workshop ID (a number found in the URL)
- Create a list of all Workshop IDs for the mods you want to install
Step 2: Access Your Server's Workshop Mod Manager
Rivix provides an easy-to-use Workshop mod manager:
- Log in to your Rivix control panel
- Navigate to your Project Zomboid server
- Click on "Mod Manager" in the sidebar
- Select the "Workshop Mods" tab
Step 3: Add Workshop Mods
Now you can add your selected mods to the server:
- In the Workshop Mod Manager, click "Add Mod"
- Enter the Workshop ID of the mod you want to install
- Click "Add" to add it to your mod list
- Repeat for each mod you want to install
You can also add multiple mods at once by entering their Workshop IDs separated by commas.
Step 4: Configure Mod Load Order
The order in which mods load can be crucial, especially for mods that depend on each other:
- In the Workshop Mod Manager, you'll see your list of installed mods
- Use the up/down arrows to change the load order
- Mods at the top of the list load first
- Always place dependency mods above the mods that require them
Important: Some common mods like "Mod Options" should always be loaded first, as many other mods depend on them.
Step 5: Enable the Mods
After adding your mods and setting the load order:
- Make sure each mod you want to use has the "Enabled" checkbox checked
- Click "Save Changes" to apply your mod configuration
Step 6: Update Server Configuration
The mod manager will automatically update your server's configuration files, but you should verify:
- Navigate to the "Configuration Files" section
- Open the "servertest.ini" file
- Check that the "Mods=" line includes all your enabled mods
- The format should be:
Mods=\ModName1;\ModName2;\ModName3; - Each mod name must start with a backslash and end with a semicolon
- Save any changes if needed
Step 7: Restart Your Server
For the changes to take effect:
- Return to the main dashboard
- Click "Restart Server"
- Wait for the server to fully restart with the new mods
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Server Won't Start After Adding Mods
If your server fails to start after adding mods:
- Check the server logs for specific error messages
- Verify that all mod dependencies are installed
- Ensure the mod load order is correct
- Try removing recently added mods one by one to identify the problematic one
Clients Can't Connect or See Mods
If players can't connect or don't see the mods:
- Ensure players have the same mods installed on their client
- Verify that mod versions match between server and clients
- Check that the server's mod list is correctly configured
Mod Conflicts
If you experience strange behavior or crashes:
- Review mod descriptions for known incompatibilities
- Try adjusting the load order
- Consider removing mods that modify the same game systems
